Quick and Easy Rajma (Kidney Beans Curry)

Rajma is a popular North Indian dish. It is made from red kidney beans with a spicy tomato gravy. It is often served with steamed rice, known as rajma rice. The dish is seasoned with aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, and garam masala, which gives it a deep and hearty flavour. Rajma is not only delicious but it is also highly nutritious, rich in protein, fibre, and essential minerals. It is very easy to make. Let's see how it is made.



Ingredients

  • 2½ Cups kidney beans 

  • 10 gm Ginger 

  • 12 Garlic Cloves 

  • ½ cup Vegetable oil

  • 3 Whole dry red chillies (Kashmiri)

  • 2 large Onions grated

  • 3 large Tomatoes chopped

  • 1 tablespoon Red chilli powder

  • Salt as per your taste 

  • 4½ cups Water

  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder

Method of making Rajma 

  • Wash the Rajma and soak it in water overnight. Next day, put it in a pressure cooker and boil it in three cups of water till 2-3 whistles.

  • Put oil in a pan and let it heat well.

  • After this, add onion and fry it well till it turns golden.

  • Now add chilli and ginger garlic paste and fry till the raw smell goes away.

  • Then add tomatoes, chilli powder, and salt and mix well.

  • Cook it till the tomatoes melt well. Cook it till the oil starts separating from the tomato paste.

  • After this, add beans and mix well. Add water as required cover it and cook.

  • Keep stirring it in between so that it does not burn.

  • When it is cooked, take it off the gas. Sprinkle garam masala in it and mix well.

  • Serve it hot with rice and roti.
