Quinoa Upma Recipe: healthy breakfast idea

Quinoa is a highly nutritious grain that has become popular around the world due to its many health benefits. It is obtained from the Chenopodium quinoa plant. Quinoa is rich in nutrients. It contains high amounts of protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Along with this, it also contains all the nine essential amino acids that our body cannot make on its own. It is gluten-free so it is a great option for people with gluten sensitivity. Let's know how to make Quinoa Upma:


Ingredients:

1 cup quinoa

1 tbsp oil 

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tbsp chana dal 

1 tbsp urad dal

10-12 curry leaves

1-2 green chilies, finely chopped

1-inch piece ginger, grated or finely chopped

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 small carrot, finely chopped

1/2 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)

1 small capsicum (bell pepper), finely chopped

1 small tomato, finely chopped (optional)

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, chopped

1 tbsp lemon juice

Salt, to taste

Method of making Quinoa upma:


  • Wash the quinoa thoroughly under running water to remove the bitterness.

  • After washing, place it on a sieve to drain out all the water.

  • Add oil to a pan.

  • After that, add mustard seeds and let them crackle.

  • Now add cumin seeds, chana dal and urad dal and fry well till the dal turns golden brown.

  • Add curry leaves, green chilies, and grated ginger and fry till the aroma comes out.

  • Now add chopped onion and fry till it becomes translucent.

  • Then add chopped carrots, green peas, and capsicum. Fry for a few minutes till the vegetables become a little soft.

  • After the vegetables are fried, add chopped tomatoes and cook till they become soft.

  • Now add turmeric powder and salt. Mix it well.

  • Add quinoa and fry well with the vegetables and spices.

  • After frying well, add water cover, and cook till the quinoa is cooked.

  • After the upma is completely cooked, add lemon juice to it and serve it hot.
