Ragi Cheela: healthy Millet recipe

Ragi is also known as finger millet. It is a very nutritious grain that has been used as a staple food in various parts of India and Africa for centuries. Many types of dishes can be made from it. It is beneficial for health. Many kinds of nutrients are found in it. Today we will make cheela using ragi. Let's start making it:


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ragi flour (finger millet flour)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped

  • 1 green chili, finely chopped 

  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, chopped

  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

  • Salt to taste

  • Water to make the batter

  • Oil for cooking



Instructions to make Ragi cheela:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ragi flour, chopped onion, tomato, green chili, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, and salt.

  • Slowly add water to it and prepare a smooth batter.

  • Heat a pan and apply a little oil on it.

  • Pour some batter into the pan and spread it evenly.

  • Keep the flame medium. When it is slightly cooked from the bottom, flip it and apply a little oil on its sides.

  • Flip and cook well on both sides.

  • Eat it hot with green chutney, you will find it very tasty.

Some tips to make the perfect chilla:


  • Make sure the batter is smooth and thick like pancake batter. Too thin or too thick will not make the chilla good.

  • Cook the chilla on medium heat to ensure it cooks well.

  • For extra nutrition and variety, you can add other vegetables also like grated zucchini, palak, capsicum, or chopped cabbage.

  • Use less oil while making it. You can use a non-stick pan for this.
